Get your tortoise ready for winter

Join us for a friendly pre-hibernation clinic designed to help you decide whether your tortoise is healthy enough to hibernate and how to prepare safely.

For new attendees we may request a £10 deposit per tortoise. We don’t currently require deposits for previous attendees.

Whats Included

Why book a pre-hibernation check?

A pre-hibernation check can health problems which may make hibernation dangerous or risky. We offer a anti-parastic treat for tortoise with high parasite burdens and you may want to arrange follow-up care with your vet if a problem is detected.

The aim is to reduce risk and help you make an informed decision about whether hibernation is suitable this year.

What happens on the day?

The day is split into morning and afternoon sessions.

Each session begins with a 45 minute informal hibernation talk and Q&A. Individual clinical examinations for exam tortoise are undertaken during and after the talk.

Please allow at least 2-3 hours for your visit.

We will provide some tea, coffee and snacks. There will be some informative stations after the talk to cover tortoise anatomy and browse. We can offer lots of Practical advice and plenty of opportunities to ask questions are included. 

What should I bring?

Please bring:

Your tortoise in a secure carrier (Tortoises are not allowed to mix between households at this event)

A fresh faecal sample (ideally 3 days pooled sample please! but we will take whatever you can get) in a clean, dry, labelled container.

Recent weight records, if available and details of previous hibernations

Information about diet, heating, UV lighting and enclosure setup

Following registration. I will send a confirmation and payment link to the email address given. Place will not be secured in till payment has been made.

If all places have been taken up then I will make a waiting list and inform you if a place is available.

This is quite a long registration form for newbies as we need all the information for your tortoise.

As you may be aware new laws have come into effect under GDPR (General Data Protection Regulations) which are designed to give you greater control over what personal information is stored for you and how it is used.

Hibernation Party Attendee 

As a practice we will use the information you have provided us with today to help you provide the best possible care for your pet(s), this will include: 

  • Contacting you with regards to the Hibernation party including reminders, advising you of any changes, or providing information on any additional services being offered as part of the Hibernation party.
  • Forwarding the clinical examination findings and recommendations to both yourself and your regular veterinary surgeon (if this information has been provided).
  • Inviting you to any other events held relating to this, i.e. Post Hibernation checks, and further Pre Hibernation parties. 
 
Registered Clients

As a practice we will automatically use the information you have provided us with today to help you provide the best possible care for your pet(s), this includes the services listed above as well as providing reminders for any recommended treatments i.e. worming and appointments. Occasionally we may contact you with information on new services and/or products that may be of benefit to your pet(s). 

General Policy:

We will not pass your details on to any third parties without your prior knowledge or consent.

You are able to update and/or change the information we hold for you at any time by contacting the practice either by phone, e-mail or in person.
