Avian Endoscopy PRACTICAL

Practical Avian Celioscopy

Date: Friday 10th January 2025

Location: Cambridge Vet School (Post Mortem Suite)
Fee: £450 (includes all equipment and materials)
Instructors: Benjamin Kennedy & Mark Naguib
CPD: 6 hours

A full-day, small-group practical designed to build confidence and skill in avian celioscopy. Working with fresh (not frozen) birds and ventilator-assisted to simulate real life as closely as possible. There will be some post mortem change but the experience is close to real life. Delegates will perform 4–5 celioscopies per person under guidance as well as seeing the other celioscopies performed within their group. This will mean that each delegate will experience around 8-12 celioscopies. This is ideal for getting that baseline experience to get confident. We will aim for 12 delegates representing a 1:6 instructor delegate ratio so there will be plenty of support and direction to improve.

The course combines a short overview of anatomy and technique with extensive hands-on time. It’s ideal for those new to avian scoping, returning after a break, or looking to refine and advance existing skills.

This course would benefit from some prior study and learning. We will provide delegates with some papers and learning materials. We would also say that Steve Diver’s online course would be an excellent preamble to this training day!

This practical has been supported by IMV imaging whom are helping with some of the equipment. This practical will be a great opportunity to look at different scoping systems should you be considering investing in scoping. https://www.imv-imaging.com/

Benjamin has developed this celioscopy course over several years to provide realistic, ethical, and high‑repetition skills training for vets at all levels.
